Why am I Being Charged Tax on My Subscription?
Beginning February 1, 2019, you may have started to see sales tax added to your subscription bill each month if you live in certain states.
If you have, please note that the service we provide has always been subject to sales tax but we previously had no legal obligation to collect it on behalf of the state.
New laws and regulations have changed this obligation, and we are now required to collect and remit the sales tax to each of the taxing jurisdictions. If you see sales tax added to your bill, please be advised that this is NOT a price increase to your service, and the additional funds are collected on behalf of your state and remitted to them as they require. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for being a valued customer.
States Charging Tax on Subscriptions: |
|||
Arizona | Iowa | New York | Tennessee |
California | Massachusetts | North Carolina | Texas |
Colorado | Minnesota | Pennsylvania | Utah |
Connecticut | Mississippi | Rhode Island | Washington |
D.C. | Missouri | South Carolina | West Virginia |
Hawaii | New Mexico | South Dakota |
How Tax Is Calculated:
-
Tax is calculated based on the house location. For example, if you have homes in Illinois and Colorado, each with a paid subscription, you will see a sales tax charge only for the home in Colorado. If you have homes in different taxable areas, you may be charged a different amount of tax on each subscription.
-
Tax is not based on the credit card billing address. Changing your billing address will not affect your sales tax rate.
