Using Motion Zones

Motion Zones

Motion zones can be used to trigger a recording when motion is detected in a specific part of the camera image.  By limiting the areas where a motion will trigger a recording, you can greatly reduce the number of unwanted recordings.

Setting up Motion Zones

1. Log into the Trane® Home web portal.

2. If you have multiple homes, select the home where you want to set up motion zones.
   
   

3. Select Video from the grey menu on the left side of the page.

4. Locate the camera on which you want to set up motion zones and click Edit Settings.
   
   

5. Click the checkbox next to Enable motion detection.  More options will appear once it has been enabled.
   

6. Using the dropdown next to Motion detection type, choose Motion sensor with zones.
   

7. Select your level of Zoned video motion sensitivity.
   

8. Use the Take Snapshot button to get an image if you do not already have one.
   

9. Four adjustable video motion zones will appear and overlay the snapshot.

   • Use the lower right corner of the zone display to adjust the size of the motion zone and select anywhere within the motion zone box to move it.

   • You can delete unneeded motion zones by clicking on the red X in the upper left corner.

   • You can add a motion zone back in by right-clicking on the image.  You can have up to four motion zones.

   • Adjust the zones to the areas you want to monitor.  If a motion is detected in these areas, the camera will react to your automation.

     • Be mindful of plants and trees.  Even a small wind can cause a tree limb, plant, or shadow of a tree limb or plant to move, causing a motion detection event.
       
     • Be mindful of streets and sidewalks.  Passing cars, pedestrians, etc. or the shadows of these can cause a motion detection event.
       
     • Please note that falling rain, snow, or hail may cause motion detection events.
       
     • Use smaller zones when possible.  If a zone is too large, a motion may not be detected.
       
     • In the example below, the user wants the camera to detect motion when someone comes to the top of the driveway, the walkway, the steps, or onto the porch.  They have modified the size and placement of their zones to exclude the street, the bottom of the driveway, and the front lawn, preventing unwanted videos of cars passing, children playing, etc.  This also excludes much of the area in which there would be moving shadows throughout the day.
       
       
     • In this second example, the user wants the camera to record motion on their front walkway and steps, along with parts of the lawn/garden.  They excluded the parking lot and sidewalk to prevent videos of cars or pedestrians, as well as placed the zones to avoid recordings of the potted plant moving in the wind.
