Troubleshooting the Most Common Google Home Issues
Google Assistant Integration
Setting up the connection between Google Assistant™ and Trane® Home requires you to link Trane to the Google Home application on your phone. Please review the article Linking Trane® Home to Google Home™ for full instructions.
Fails to Control Devices
-
Test Google Home functionality and WiFi connection by asking it to check the weather.
-
Make sure you are pausing long enough before the command. Google Home devices will make an audible sound to inform the user it is listening. Say "OK, Google," then pause, wait for the Google sound, and continue with the command, i.e., "tell Trane Home to set Upstairs Thermostat to 72°".
-
Verify device names are reasonably short. Other scenarios that can cause vocal command errors:
-
Using room names
-
Numbers
-
Special characters
-
Similar names (Kitchen plug left, kitchen plug right)
-
-
If the issue is still present, please contact Trane Home Customer Support.
- NOTE: Google Home cannot open garage doors or locks as this capability would present a security risk since the device cannot differentiate between who is issuing the verbal command.
Connection Issues
-
Test both devices individually. If either of the following tests fails, follow appropriate troubleshooting for network connection.
-
Trane Home: Using the Trane Home app or web portal, attempt to interact with one of your devices, i.e., dim a light or turn the heater on/off.
-
Google Home: Ask the weather.
