Cybersecurity Best Practices
We recommend that all Trane® Home customers follow the latest best practices to secure their wireless internet connection:
-
Use the latest supported encryption on your home router.
-
Router security should be set to either WPA2-Personal (AES) or WPA3-Personal Transitional.
- All Trane WiFi-enabled smart thermostats, models XL824, XL850, XL950, XL1050, and Link (UX360), support WPA2-Personal (AES).
- WPA3-Personal Transitional mode (a mixed mode of WPA3/WPA2) may work as well, depending on your router.
- WPA-Personal (TKIP) and WEP are obsolete and should not be used.
-
These options are set in your router configuration. Please refer to your router owner’s manual for instructions. If you need additional assistance with router configuration:
- Contact your ISP if you lease the router as part of your internet service.
- Contact the router manufacturer if you purchased your router from a store or online retailer.
-
Router security should be set to either WPA2-Personal (AES) or WPA3-Personal Transitional.
- Change the SSID from its default value to a unique one.
- Change the default admin password on the router if it has one.
- Choose a strong wireless passphrase.
-
Use a complex password for your Trane Home account and do not share this password. Use a unique password for each user.
- It's possible to give access to the account without divulging the password by generating a 12-digit code. Access can be revoked at any time.
- Use a password manager to generate strong passwords.
-
Keep your equipment connected to the internet to receive the latest security updates.
- Updates will be automatically applied to your equipment when they become available.
-
On the Link (UX360) thermostat, it is recommended that you disable Bluetooth discoverability when it is not in use. To turn off Bluetooth on the Link (UX360) thermostat:
-
Press Menu on the Link thermostat.
-
Tap Settings.
-
Press Wireless Technician Access.
-
Select the Off option
-
Press Menu on the Link thermostat.
